Fasting is a difficult discipline because it requires we forfeit our most primal need for food. But we will be more inclined to fasting is if we better understand that it is a means of God’s grace in our lives.  By fasting, we are being given divine assistance in getting closer to God.  In doing so, we are then making ourselves available to enjoy the benefits and blessings that God promises will ensue.  With this understanding, we would be eager to engage more often in this exercise important exercise in our lives.
